Radnor Concours d' Elegance

September 9 – 11

TOMORROW the Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance celebrates their 20th anniversary which concludes three days of activities that began with the Friday evening Barbecue, followed by the always popular Road Rally through the scenic countryside of Chester County on Saturday morning, culminating in a catered lunch. The Saturday evening Black Tie Gala, Silent Auction and Art Show Preview is the prelude to the main event, the Concours d' Elegance on Sunday. Each year, the Concours event, an invitation-only show, has a featured marque, a vehicle type or coachbuilder and a motorcycle make. The 2016 event will showcase over 20 of the most interesting and significant Lancia automobiles. To celebrate our 20th anniversary, over 20 previous Concours and First Class Winners will again grace the lawns of the Radnor Hunt Club along with the iconic 300 SL from Mercedes Benz. In addition to the wonderful four wheeled vehicles Radnor Concours also features motorcycles this year from the Land of the Rising Sun and Fast from the Past. Both the A.C.Ace and the Lotus Super Seven restored by Pollock Auto Restoration have been invited to this prestigious event!

The event also includes Motorsport Park, providing local marque car clubs the opportunity to gather in an exclusive parking area close to the show field entrance on Sunday, as well as a Cars & Coffee gathering on Saturday concurrent with the road rally. The Marketplace area features a variety of both automotive and non-automotive merchants, and offering specialized shopping for concours attendees. Advance discount tickets for all activities are available online at www.radnorconcours.org and include the popular VIP Luncheon and the elite Chairman’s VIP reserved seating area overlooking the show field.

Driver/Survivor

by: Dave Jago, Shop Manager

We recently received a 1952 MGTD belonging to a new client here at Ragtops & Roadsters. The car was purchased by the current owner in 1958 and was garaged a decade later, where it remained until this week! The owner wants to get it back into shape for his family, with an approach that we recommend for these survivors. The first step is to evaluate the mechanical and structural condition of the MG, with the assumption that hydraulic and rubber components are a must. We’ll identify basic issues which would prevent it from running and stopping safely and recommend repairs to address those functions. While the exterior may appear a bit worn and rough, it is fairly sound for an original car. At some point in its 64-year history, the interior had been redone. It remains in very suitable shape to be used until such time as aesthetics become a priority. Getting the car back on the road in a safe condition is our first goal – to give the owner a chance to get back behind the wheel and relive his memories, and to let his family start creating some new ones!

LOG 36 Lotus National Meet

August 5 – 7

By Dave Hutchison
Ragtops & Roadsters was very pleased to sponsor LOG 36 at the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal which was hosted by P.A.L.S.  Above is a group photo (by Doug Chadwick)  of some of our clients who attended this national event.
Several Lotus formula cars were on display in the lobby and the entire first floor of the hotel was decorated with many of the illustrations by Jon Dahlstrom who was the original artist, who also was in attendance! The framed artwork was given out to those who came to the Sunday banquet. Very nice!
Over 180 Lotus and "DNA Cars" drove to Washington Crossing Park in Pennsylvania and there was a very strong presence of Sevens!
Al Navaro just took delivery of his Seven from R&R after we completed a number of tasks including fitting an engine rebuilt by Ted Wentz at Savannah Race Engineering. Al said he had a great drive that morning!  All good. Sue Howard won several awards with her Lotus Elite at the banquet later that evening.
The little girl, now young lady, Elisa Artioli, who was the namesake of Lotus Elise was our special quest in Princeton. She is celebrating her Lotus connection by driving through Europe with her own Elise and she put Princeton on her map!
Wes Fredricks provided some interesting details from his tenure at Lotus about the trials and tribulations as they introduced of the Elite, Esprit, Eclat right through into the GM era.  Laura and Karl Darby won First in Class with their Super Seven fresh out of restoration from Ragtops & Roadsters and Pollock Auto Restoration. Congrats!
Charlene Hutchison learns some interesting points about the Ground for Sculpture from Kyle Kaulback and his lovely wife! They, with Co-Chair, Glen Schostak, and the entire LOG 36 Volunteer Team did a fantastic job of making this a a great weekend.. Congrats to all! Job well done!

LOG 37 will be held at the Barber Motorsport Park in Birmingham, AL next May. They are planning to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Super Seven.
elow is the view from "Rats",  a French restaurant at the Ground of Sculpture.
Both are well worth a visit!

New Hope Auto Show

August 13th & 14th

In June of 1966 the Ford GT40 took the top three places in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This year we celebrated the 50th anniversary of this remarkable victory!
Ragtop & roadsters was pleased to again sponsor the New Hope Auto Show..  The weather was exceptionally hot, buy many still stopped by to say hello.
Our work was on display, the 1957 A.C Ace and the 1958 Lotus Super Seven.
There was very strong showing of Alfa Romeos and the DVT had eight cars.
Congratulations to our friends, Mark Podob with his Morgan and Chris Bacon with his MGA for the First Place wins!
