In 1954 the owner of this Morgan had made corporal and was stationed in Orleans, France in the US Army Headquarters Company. The call came from England that his 1954, TR2 powered Plus 4 Morgan had been shipped and was available at the Morgan dealer in Paris. Train and cab got him to the small, crowded shop to see the new British racing-green, long-hooded, shined up car, waiting.
Mog as car became known as, and the seller spent all 66 years, from 1954 to 2020, together. During those years of uninterrupted ownership, driving in France, Switzerland and the USA, the Mog NEVER let him down! Ever.
Mog always started, always ran, never quit. A tiny fender bender in Basel Switzerland, a slow snowy slider into the driver’s side, left no wooden frame damage or gas line pinch, just fender. That was quickly repaired by the local shop. Yes, an occasional flat. Easy.
He courted his wife in Mog, married and drove through the Swiss Alps and all over Europe in Mog. Their first child was born and rode in his special carrier behind the seat. Then he shipped Mog to states, and drove all around CT, NY and to Philadelphia, then settled West Chester, PA. It became his wife’s car or ‘his’ depending on the errands or goals. The station wagon was used for bigger errands and for his family.
When Mog became the third car, it was stored in our barn, covered, jacked up and drained of fluids by our local mechanic. After some years of being barned, Mog was flat-bedded to a Morgan specialist near Lancaster, PA. for a frame off, total restoration and re-spray and mechanical rebuild by Jim McHenry (where our owner, Mike Engard worked at the time) Once again on the road, Mog was the exciting, reliable as ever, eye-catching, question inspiring member of the family. And always pampered and garage kept. Fast forward to 2020, Mog came into Ragtops & Roadsters and we freshened this Morgan to once again drive like a new motorcar. All service records from 1954 to present will be available and will come with this special car.
To full enjoy Mog, you can’t be portly but should be limber, not too young or too old. The seller is not any of that anymore and so Mog deserves a fall-in-love-with new mate and carry on! This one owner well cared for example of a Morgan +4 runs strong and drives very well indeed.
