In the Shop Now

by: Mike Sinback, Shop Manager

This 1961 Lotus Super Seven was here last year when we fit the engine rebuilt by Savannah Race Engineering. We also completed some paint repair and mechanical restoration work at that time. We are now rebuilding the seat, fitting a larger fuel tank, installing new springs on the front dampers and new Avon tyres are on their way from the UK. The jury is still out on how effective the forced air induction cooling system "propeller on radiator" will be! We hope it is not too hot in Alabama!  Dave will load this lucky Seven with a Birkin Seven in a two car trailer and head to Birmingham for LOG 37 later this month.

TR vs MG Spring Rallye
by: Dave Hutchison

On Saturday, April 29, the Delaware Valley Triumph Club and the MG Club of Philadelphia met in Valley Forge National Park to square off once again, as we have done twice a year for nearly three decades! It was nice to see Tim Kratz, former R&R technician, compete with his 1955 TR2! Six MGs and eight Triumphs rallied for the coveted Lucas Cup, a perpetual award where the winners have their names engraved on a plaque and get to keep the Cup until the next rallye. My son, Chuck and I made the game day decision to not drive our red Triumph Italia as the weather looked threatening. We hopped in the Miata and received a good deal of grief from our MG and TR rally friends upon our arrival. The ribbing is to be expected as last fall we were fortunate to win the fall rallye and now we show up driving a non-British car and are ineligible to defend the very Cup we brought to the event!
Not being eligible to oficially compete in MG vs TR rallye we still ran with a couple other modern day cars including two Audis and a Mustang! We drove hard all day and scored enough points to win First Place in the "non-British class" which barely gets you a pat on the back or an "at-a-boy". The real heros of the day were my good friend Dan Tinsman in his TR6 and his navigator and daughter, Emma. Dan and Emma defended the Lucas Cup for the DVT by scoring 192 out of a possible 203 points! Congratulations! Well done. With this fourth consecutive Triumph victory, the DVT is getting close to matching the MG wins over the years! The MG Club did win highest cumulative score and took that award home. We are pictured here with our non-awards along with two real winners, Dan and Emma who proudly hold the MG vs TR Rallye Lucas Cup. Next fall we will drive a TRIUMPH!

A Visit to the Audrain Museum
by: Dave Hutchison

Last month we delivered a Triumph Herald to good a client and friend of ours who lives in Kingston, RI. Over the last two years, we restored the car at Ragtops & Roadsters and painted it at our sister shop, Pollock Auto Restoration. We spent a day in and around Newport, RI and stopped in to visit the Audrain Automobile Museum located in downtown Newport. What a gem!
The museum is located in the Audrain building in downtown Newport that was transformed into a beautiful showroom to display about 15 cars. Established in 2014 they feature three exhibitions a year as Executive Director, David de Muzio and his staff pull their cars from a privately held collection of about 200 cars owned by its founder, so there is always something fresh to see. From brass era to supercars they are all in an exhibition presented as an art-form.
The current "Drop Dead Drop Top" Exhibition, running through June 24th, features a one-off Bugatti Veyron painted to pay homage to the 1928 Bugatti Type 37A raced by Pierre Veyron. We suggest you visit their website and sign up for their emails so you can stop in to pay a visit when you are in Newport. You will not be disappointed!
Ragtops & Roadsters is here to help out this spring and upcoming summer driving seasons. Maybe it's time to take care of that deferred maintenance, restoration, preservation, and upgrade needs that are on your car's wish list? Click here to send an e-mail to dave@ragtops.com or call us 215-257-1202 to schedule an appointment. We are now scheduling appointments in late June and July so it's not too soon to plan for the summer driving. Click to see our updated Works In Progress page on our website.
