Ragtops & Roadsters is a full-service automotive restoration provider. While other restorers must send their projects out to other shops for critically important work like paint and upholstery, we have the staff and resources to handle it all under the roof of our 26,000-square-foot restoration workshop in Pottstown, Pennsylvania.
What was originally built as a silk mill nearly a century ago is now home to the daily hum of old-world automotive craftsmanship. At one end of the the main floor, our mechanical technicians overhaul, repair and rebuild the major systems of classic vehicles.
At the other end of the floor, our fabrication experts craft entire new components – including complete bodies – from scratch using classic coach building tools and techniques. Our wood shop, machine shop and welding shop allow us to recreate almost anything in-house.
On the upper floor, our paint and body technicians work to masterfully perfect the lines and surfaces on the world’s most iconic vehicles in preparation for paint. We employ BASF’s professional paint systems to ensure the most accurate color and sheen, including Glasurit 22 solvent-based urethane for single-stage finishes and R-M Diamont urethane for base/clear finishes.
Our in-house trim and upholstery department crafts complete new interiors from the industry’s finest selection of marque-specific leathers, vinyls, fabrics, carpets and other materials to ensure the most original appearance possible.
The finishing department reassembles vehicles in clean, spacious, well-lit work bays, bringing all the finishing touches together to guarantee a fully restored project looks as good as new – and often even better.
With more than thirty years of experience ranging from pre-war American antiques to post-war European and British classics and sports cars, our focus is on top-quality, show-winning restorations. Let us build your dream vehicle.
Restoring valuable, cherished vehicles requires the skills to not only complete the job right, but also the understanding that it’s the smallest details that matter the most. The restoration technicians that make up the Ragtops & Roadsters team have been individually selected for their experience and commitment to creating perfection.
Our veteran technicians have decades of automotive service and restoration experience gleaned from time spent at the area’s most exclusive dealerships and independent shops. To ensure we have a qualified and enthusiastic staff well into the future, we also work closely with technical colleges such as Penn College of Technology to develop the next generation of restoration craftspeople.
Properly restoring a classic vehicle can be a lengthy and expensive journey. To ensure our clients get the most value out of their project, we work closely with them to lay out a clear plan before we pick up our first tool.
Our process starts with a complete vehicle evaluation. This extensive examination looks at each of the major vehicle systems to assess their current condition so we can determine the vehicle’s suitability for restoration. We then build a detailed “guideline report” based on our “FAR” protocol: Findings, Assumptions, Recommendations.
Depending on each client’s priorities, timeline and budget, we develop a detailed restoration plan that maximizes time and cost efficiencies. Only once we have a client’s approval do we accept a project, collect a deposit and schedule the vehicle for start of work.
Once a vehicle restoration is under way, we communicate with the client continuously to provide updates of work that’s been performed, notice of upcoming work that is scheduled, and any developments that may have arisen in the process.
When all of the work is completed to our satisfaction, a technician not previously assigned to the vehicle performs a quality control drive to confirm the requested work has been completed. After that, one of our non-technician management staff performs “finals,” one last drive with completely fresh senses to ensure the vehicle is ready for delivery.
